Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause respiratory infections. These include the common cold and other more serious diseases.
COVID-19 is the disease caused by a new coronavirus. First, it was reported in December 2019 in Wuhan City in China. Hence, some people refer to the novel coronavirus as Wuhan virus or China virus.
What are the symptoms?
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
How does the virus spread?
Coronavirus is not an air-borne disease. In other words, it does not spread through the air. For someone to get infected, droplets from a sick person’s saliva need to come in contact with a healthy person’s eyes, nose or mouth. Viruses on objects die within 48 hours and the only effective way to get rid of them sooner is to wash them off with soap.
How do I prevent the spread?
Clean hands frequently with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Cover nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or flexed elbow.
What should I do if I have the symptoms?
If you believe that you have any of the above-mentioned symptoms, then you should seek medical advice by contacting the relevant department, depending on the country you reside. Most countries have established dedicated call centres to help with the coronavirus outbreak. It is of the utmost importance not to come in contact with anyone else. This will only accelerate spreading the virus.
COVID-19 virus CAN be transmitted in areas with hot and humid climates.
Based on the evidence so far, COVID-19 can be transmitted in ALL AREAS, including areas with hot and humid weather. You should adopt protective measures if you live in, or travel to an area reporting COVID-19, by frequently cleaning your hands to eliminate viruses that may be on your hands and avoid infection that could occur by then touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
Cold weather and snow CANNOT kill the new coronavirus.
Eating garlic CANNOT prevent infection with the new coronavirus.
The new coronavirus CANNOT be transmitted through mosquito bites.
There is no evidence to suggest that the new coronavirus can be transmitted by mosquito bites. The new coronavirus spreads through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose. Through good hygiene and social distancing, we remain safe and prevent the spread of the virus.
Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body WILL NOT kill viruses that have already entered your body.
